Welcome to Myrtle Beach!

Here's what's happening...

Orange Box  MyBeach 101 applications...  Myrtle Beach's citizens' academy, MyBeach 101, is accepting applications for its second session.  This free, eight-week program is similar to the Citizens Police Academy, but focuses on general government services, not just the Police Department.  MyBeach 101 meets Thursday evenings beginning October 6, at various locations.  Class members must complete at least six of the eight classes to graduate.  The MyBeach 101 Application is available on line, with the class limited to 25 participants.  Applicants must be city residents.  The application deadline is 5:00 p.m., Friday, September 16.

Orange Box  Beach Safety Brochure...  A new brochure featuring beach safety tips and local laws is available on-line to enhance your enjoyment of Myrtle Beach!  View the brochure on your computer or smart phone, or print a hard copy for future reference.  When printing, be sure to use "actual size" so that the brochure folds properly.

Orange Box  Ocean Boulevard parking...  Changes to the allowed parking in the residential sections of Ocean Boulevard, from 31st Avenue North to 82nd Avenue North, are now in effect.  A description of the parking rules and locations is available, for those who are interested in viewing the changes.  This includes updates approved at the June 28, 2016, City Council meeting.

Orange Box  Golf cart laws...  South Carolina regulates how golf carts may be driven on the public streets.  The complete list of golf cart requirements is available.  Among other things, the cart needs a permit from the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles, as well as liability insurance.  As before, only licensed drivers, age 16 and older, can drive golf carts on public streets and only during daylight hours.

Orange Box  Annual water quality report...  The City of Myrtle Beach is pleased to make its 2016 annual Drinking Water Consumer Confidence Report available to the public.  As you'll see, our drinking water meets or exceeds all standards!

Orange Box  Myrtle's Market is open...  Come to the farmers' market for fresh vegetables and fruits every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  Items include handmade crafts, local honey and homemade desserts.  Myrtle's Market is at Oak Street and Mr. Joe White Avenue.  Call 843-918-4906 for information or to become a vendor.

Orange Box  Beach rules prohibit tents... Myrtle Beach restricts the use of tents and other shading devices, except umbrellas, from Memorial Day through Labor Day.  Umbrellas up to seven-and-a-half feet in diameter are allowed during those summer months.  From the day after Labor Day until Memorial Day, tents up to 12-by-12 feet and less than nine feet tall may be used behind the umbrella line and 10 feet apart.  Visit our Tent Rules page for a printable hand-out.

Orange Box  Parking meters...  Parking meters and pay stations are in effect from March 1 through October 31 in the commercial areas east of Kings Highway.  SeeParking meter our Parking Meter page for more information.  If you have a valid handicapped hang tag or license plate, or a Purple Heart or Disabled American Veterans (DAV) license plate, you may park free at any public meter in South Carolina.  (This exemption does not apply to privately operated meters or pay stations.)  Also, you can use in Parkmobile to conveniently pay for parking via your cell phone or an app.

Orange Box  Police records and statistics...  The Police Department's Police-to-Citizen (P2C) site provides incident reports, arrest records, accident reports, crimeP2C graphic and link statistics and more.  Visit the site to learn more about Myrtle Beach police and local law enforcement results.

Orange Box  More city news...  Visit the Friday Fax for this week's news, agendas and more.  Or, add your name to our list by sending us your e-mail address.  Check out Photos of the Week for snapshots of city activities.  You'll also find information about flood protection and hurricane preparations
