Corner Icon City Zoning Code...  Developed during more than 100 public meetings, Myrtle Beach's new Zoning Code took effect in late 2014.  The new Zoning Map is available, on-line, too.  It's 40 megabytes.

Orange Box  US Air Force Heritage Brass...  Come hear the US Air Force Heritage Brass band in a free concert at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, February 13, at Beach Church on George Bishop Parkway.  This concert is sponsored by the City of Myrtle Beach and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce.  Tickets are required, but are free!  Get them up at City Hall or the Chamber office.  See and hear this outstanding Air Force group!   

 

Orange Box  Easter Egg Plunge...  Hey, kids!  Registration is underway for the Easter Egg Plunge at Mary C. Recreation Center.  This great family event for children, ages 5 to 12, begins at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 25.  Admission is free.  Activities include meeting the Easter Bunny, diving for eggs in the pool and playing games, along with candy and prizes.  To register, contact Ryan Caputo at 843-918-1476.  Advance registration is required by March 24.  Please check in 15 minutes before your plunge!

 

Orange Box  New Bicycle App in beta testing mode...  Thanks to a suggestion from the Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety Committee, the city's GIS staff has created BikeMB, a new mobile device app that shows bicycle trails in The Market Common.  It also lets riders log bicycle accidents they may have had throughout the city.  For more information about places to ride and how to ride safely, visit our Bicycle Map and Safety Brochures page. 

 

Orange Box  Noah Galloway is Grand Marshal...  Myrtle Beach celebrates Military Appreciation Days during the month of May with a full schedule of events.  Army veteran Noah Galloway is Grand Marshal for our parade on Saturday, May 28, on Farrow Parkway at The Market Common.  After the parade, meet Galloway in person and enjoy the Family Picnic, live music from the Andrew Thielen Big Band, military exhibits, activities and more!  We're planning a great month of May to honor our military men, women and families.  Visit www.militaryappreciationdays.com

 

Orange Box  Senior Newsletter debuts...  A new publication designed especially for a senior audience is available now.  Called Senior News, the new quarterly newsletter is produced by the City of Myrtle Beach's Seniors Advisory Committee.  Check it out for upcoming events and other useful information for area seniors, and perhaps any age! 

 

Orange Box  The robots are coming...  Build a working robot from a box of parts?  That’s the task for 66 teams of high school students from South Carolina, the East Coast and Canada in the 13th annual Palmetto Regional FIRST Robotics Competition, February 26-27, 2016, at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.  Some 1,200 competitors in grades 9-12 will discover the rewards and excitement of careers and education in science, engineering and technology.  Working with teachers and mentors from the community, they have six weeks to build a robot to accomplish specific tasks.  The teams warm up Thursday, February 25, with robot inspections and practice rounds, followed by the tournament itself. Orange Box  Controlling coyotes in urban areas...  Myrtle Beach is an urban area, but we still have wildlife all around us.  Residents have reported coyotes in or near their neighborhoods.  To address the issue of nuisance wildlife, the city has created a publication called, “Controlling Coyotes in Urban Areas.”  It’s available in two print-on-demand formats.  The first is a standard tri-fold brochure, while the other is a two-page flyer(Note:  When printing, be sure to set “page scaling” to “none.”  Both documents are designed to be printed at full size.)
