In January, city staff will pick up Christmas trees at curbside and take them to be recycled.  Remove all tree stands and decorations!  The trees will be turned into free mulch.

The big sale returns to the Myrtle Beach Convention Center from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, August 22, 2015.  Vendor registration will begin at a later date.

Orange Box  Traffic and safety improvements for Bikefest...  For 2015, Myrtle Beach is implementing new safety and traffic management plans for the Atlantic Beach Memorial Day Bikefest.  Changes to expect include a traffic loop, from 10:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., to keep vehicles flowing.  Details and a map of the loop are available.  


Orange Box  J. R. Martinez is Grand Marshal...  Myrtle Beach celebrates Military Appreciation Days during the month of May with a full schedule of events.  Army veteran J. R. Martinez is Grand Marshal for our parade on Saturday, May 16, which also is Armed Forces Day.  Martinez was severely wounded during a tour of duty in Iraq in 2003.  His recovery took 34 months, but today he is a successful actor, author, motivational speaker and winner of Dancing with the Stars.  You'll have a chance to meet J. Orange Box  Disaster Recovery Symposium files...  If you missed the second-annual Disaster Recovery Symposium for area businesses, you can still see what the speakers had to say.  Here are links to their presentation files.  Due to the file size, one or more of these .pdfs may take a while to load. 

Orange Box  The robots are coming...  Build a working robot from a box of parts?  That’s the task for 66 teams of high school students from South Carolina and the East Coast in the 12th annual Palmetto Regional FIRST Robotics Competition, February 27-28, 2015, at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.  Some 1,200 competitors in grades 9-12 will discover the rewards and excitement of careers and education in science, engineering and technology.  Daylong volunteers are needed to help with this lively event featuring a “pit” area and fast-paced competitions.  To volunteer, visit Working with teachers and professional mentors from the community, they have six weeks to build and test a robot to accomplish specific tasks.  The teams warm up Thursday, February 26, with robot inspections and practice rounds, followed by the tournament itself. Admission is free!  


Orange Box  Senior Survey seeks YOUR feedback...  Attention seniors!  We want to hear from you about what you enjoy doing in Myrtle Beach and along the Grand Strand.  The Seniors Advisory Committee, working with the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, has developed a short survey especially for seniors to gauge what activities you enjoy and how to better serve our seniors.  Take a few minutes to give us your feedback.  The survey will be available through January 31, 2015, at which time we'll compile the results.  Thanks!
