Base Recreation Center

Programs, Classes and Activities

       

The following classes and activities are offered at the Base Recreation Center.  For more information, call the Base Recreation Center at 918-2380 or come by the center at 800 Gabreski Lane!  Can’t find a class or activity to suit your needs?  Call 918-2380 and discuss it with us.

 

Senior Movie Schedule…  Come enjoy a free movie for adults and seniors every Tuesday at 3:00 p.m.  Soft drinks and popcorn are available for $1 each.

 

August 25 – Chicago (PG-13), starring John C. Reilly

September 1 – Mall Cop (PG), starring Kevin James

September 8 – Meet the Browns (PG), starring Tyler Perry

September 15 – Three Amigos (PG), starring Chevy Chase

September 22 – Madea Goes to Jail (PG) starring Tyler Perry

September 29 – Grumpy Old Men (PG-13), starring Jack Lemmon

October 6 – The Wrestler (R), starring Mickey Rourke

October 13 – Man on Fire (R), starring Denzel Washington

 

Myrtle Beach Table Tennis Club…  If you enjoy the game of table tennis, come join this competitive group!  All are welcome to play.  The club meets Mondays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.  Just $1 to play.  Annual memberships are available for $10 per year for city residents and $17 per year for non-residents.

 

Bingo…   Bingo, anyone?  Come play every Wednesday and Friday from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. There is no charge for bingo, but please bring a prize for the prize table!

 

Quilting…  Come join the Grand Strand Quilters on Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.  Learn how to make your very own quilt or show off your skills to others.  All are welcome to join this fun and exciting group.  Just $2 per visit.  Annual memberships are available for $10 per year for city residents or $17 for non- residents.

 

Beginner Ballroom Dance Lessons…  with Jim Sterner every Monday from 6:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Students will learn a basic step, rumba, cha cha, waltz, fox trot and much more.  Fees:  $7 per person for city residents and $12 per person for non- residents.

 

Shag/Swing Dance Lessons…  with Jim Sterner every Monday from 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.  Students will learn to shag with moves like male and female turns, a side-by-side turn, a start and much more. $7 per person for city residents and $12 per person for non- residents

 

Line Dance Lessons…  with Sandra Morris every Tuesday from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.  Just $4 per person for city residents or $6 for non residents.  You’ll love the music, fun and friendly people!

 

Free Game Day…  Come play games with us, every Wednesday from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. for adults and seniors and every Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. for teens.  Come socialize with others while enjoying Wii games, billiards, table tennis, horseshoes and card and board games.

 

Guitar Lessons…  with Steve Marino every Thursday from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m.  Get quick and easy instructions for the beginner student and theory and technique for the developed guitarist. Classes are in 40 minute time slots.  Students must have own guitar and call to schedule time.  Maximum 4 students per time slot.  Fees:  $5 per class for city residents and $8 per class for non-residents.

 

Beginners Taoist Tai Chi…  with Barbara MacDonald from the Taoist Tai Chi Society every Monday and Wednesday from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.  Fees:  $25 per month for city residents and $42 per month for non- residents.  This is a beginner class with 108 moves.

 

Base Book Club…  The Base Recreation Center invites you to join the Book Club. The club will meet every Friday from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. to discuss books of your choice. Please call in advance to register.  It’s free to join, and coffee will be provided.
