Myrtle Beach welcomes Air Show, Dragon Boats and more in April

The last weekend of April promises to be exceptionally busy in and around The Market Common district in Myrtle Beach. Major events include the Wings Over Myrtle Beach Air Show, featuring the Blue Angels, at the airport and Ground Zero's 10th Annual Ground Zero Dragon Boat Festival in Grand Park. We also have a large event at the Grand Park Athletic Complex.With 30,000 or so expected for the Air Show and another 5,000 expected for the Dragon Boats, parking will be at a premium. See the attached graphic for additional information about where parking will be allowed. Parking laws will be enforced, and vehicles illegally parked will be ticketed. Please be respectful of both public and private property.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department held a news conference, Wednesday, to discuss the operational plan that is designed to keep traffic flowing and keep the public during this weekend’s Inaugural Wings Over Myrtle Beach Air Show, the annual Dragon Boat Race and the soccer tournament.  All of these events will be held in the Market Common District.  Due to the fly zone for the airshow, parts of Kings Highway will be closed, beginning Thursday, April 26.  See the full schedule of road closures below.

10:45 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 26

3:00 to 4:30 p.m., Thursday, April 26

2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Friday, April 27

2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Saturday, April 28

2:30 to 4:30 p.m., Sunday, April 29

Ocean Boulevard will be open to traffic. 

The air show’s promoter has provided parking at Fantasy Harbour Theatre, 3237 Waccamaw Boulevard. Transportation will be provided to the air show location.  Parking is also designated on the air field.  These parking options are for ticket holders and must be purchased in advance from http://wingsovermyrtlebeach.com/tickets/. 

The two parking garages and public parking spaces in Market Common will be open for air show spectators.  The former Piggly Wiggly parking lot will be reserved and not be available for public parking.  If you park on private property without permission, the property owner has the right to tow your vehicle. 

If you are traveling South on Kings Highway, approaching 29th Avenue South, you will be detoured to Harrelson Boulevard or continue on 29th Avenue South and traffic will be diverted East on 29th Avenue South to Ocean Boulevard

If you are traveling from Market Common to Kings Highway via Farrow Parkway, as you reach Kings Highway, you will be directed to travel South on Kings Highway or continue traveling to Ocean Boulevard

If you are traveling into Myrtle Beach from Surfside Beach, you can go west onto Farrow Parkway or travel to Ocean Boulevard. 

Soccer Tournament attendees are encouraged to use Meyers Avenue and park in the parking lots near the soccer and softball fields. 

Dragon Boat Race participants should park in the parking lot at Horry-Georgetown Technical College.

If you are shopping or dining in the Market Common District,  Howard Avenue between Iris and Reed Streets, and  Reed Street between Deville and Farrow Parkway are designated for three-hour parking only.

The Myrtle Beach Police Department will open its Information line from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday and SundayI, April 28-April 29.  f you have questions regarding traffic, parking and directions call 843-918-INFO or 843-918-4636.  Be patient, plan ahead and give yourself additional time to get to your destination.
