If you like history, be sure to visit the Canal Street Recreation Center's annual African-American History Museum.  This year's display has moved to the banquet hall.  It features information and artifacts about artists, educators, scientists, inventors, poets, writers, politicians and civil rights pioneers.  For example, African-Americans invented or improved such items as the stop light, gas masks, toilet paper, smoke detectors, hole punches and microphones.  Of course, George Washington Carver's contributions to agriculture included the advancement of 350 peanut products.  The museum is open during the recreation center's regular hours.  Admission is free.
