Police Department

Administrative Division - Citizens' Police Academy

We are accepting applications for the 19th session of the Citizens' Police Academy.

Citizens Police Academy application

Classes will begin on Monday, January 25th and will meet every Monday for 10 weeks with graduation on March 29th. Classes run from 7pm-9pm are held at the Myrtle Beach Police Annex located at 3340 Mustang Street (Old Air Force Base).

Applications are due to Sgt. Di Lorenzo at the Myrtle Beach Police Department Annex no later than December 11th at 500pm. Please take note that this Academy only offers an “inside look” at policing and offers no certification or arrest powers and is not an auxiliary unit of the Police Department.

The first Citizens' Police Academy began in September 2000; and the response from the participants was so great, we knew there was no turning back. The Academy was created to provide our residents and business people with an opportunity to meet and take a look at local law enforcement. Our hope is that participants will obtain a sense of how we serve them and the community, and how the citizen might help us serve more effectively.  The Myrtle Beach Police Department offers a Spring and Fall session.  Classes meet on Monday evenings from 7:00-9:00 pm for a total of 10 weeks. While attending the Academy will not certify you to be a police officer, you will gain a better understanding of police work and have a lot of fun along the way.

Academy classes are taught by veteran police officers.  Some of the topics covered are: Driving Under the Influence (Law & exercise), Crime Scene Investigation, Crime Prevention, Criminal Domestic Violence, Gun safety, Firearms Simulations, and more.  We have introduced an optional Saturday class for participants to allow more time for special (fun) topics.

Applications for our CPA are available at our main Police Department located at 1101 Oak Street or at our Annex located at 3340 Mustang St. on the old Air Force Base.  You can also download your application HERE Be sure to read the Selection Procedure & Requirements prior to picking up your application.. For further information, please contact Sgt. Eric DiLorenzo at 843-918-1803 or via e-mail at edilorenzo@cityofmyrtlebeach.com.
