The City of Myrtle Beach has always been considered a place where people could bring their families to have special events. These events include family reunions, trade shows, parades, weddings and many other events that require special planning and a great deal of manpower. The City of Myrtle Beach also wanted to have a good handle on the taxicabs that are operating within the City of Myrtle Beach. We were concerned with the vehicle condition, fares, and the proper operation of these cabs. Based on this heavy burden put on our Department, it was decided that a new position would be created. This position was established and is called the Special Events Coordinator, which is part of the Administrative Section and is filled by a certified Police Officer.
Cpl. Bryan Murphy is currently filling this position, and he is responsible for the following duties: parade permits, special events that are held on public property within the city limits of Myrtle Beach and our off-duty employment requirements. He is also responsible for taxicab inspections and the issuance of taxi medallions. If you have any questions concerning the handling of Special Events, Taxi Cab ordinances, or Funeral Escorts, click on one of the links to the left under the Special Events Coordinator link. If you have a question concerning Special Events, you can contact the Special Events Coordinator at 843-918-1808 or e-mail us a specevents@cityofmyrtlebeach.com.
