If your visiting Myrtle Beach and your vehicle suffers some mechanical issues that causes it to stop running, you can contact the SCDOT Incident Response unit. SCDOT Incident Response (formerly known as SHEP) plays a major role in managing congestion on major roadways. SCDOT Incident Response consists of specially equipped trucks that travel our roads, monitoring traffic conditions. When crashes or other type incidents are detected, the SCDOT Incident Response responder alerts the proper emergency response teams. SCDOT Incident Response staff handles initial response duties and then assists emergency response teams upon their arrival on the scene. SCDOT Incident Response units are also equipped to provide basic auto repair assistance such as changing a flat tire, jump starting your car, and providing fuel and water. If your vehicle is disabled in a travel lane and/or needs more serious attention, SCDOT Incident Response personnel can move your vehicle out of the travel lane to a safe location (with your permission of course), and arrangements can be made for towing services. SCDOT Incident Response units patrol segments of US 17 and US 501. All units operate during rush hours, weekends and assist any time activities dictate. If you need assistance and have a cellular phone, call *HP and ask for SCDOT Incident Response. For additional information on the program, go to SCDOT Incident Response Home Page.
