Tim Womick, a modern-day Johnny Appleseed, delighted kids with his crazy tree humor at a pre-Arbor Day event on Saturday, November 14, at the Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA. The family day was sponsored by the City of Myrtle Beach and GreenKeepers, a local group that raised funds to plant 51 trees along the nearby walking trail. Womick's lessons kept the crowd of 200 children and parents entertained and involved for an hour. Everyone then trooped outdoors for the tree plantings and other activities, which included building bird feeders and birdhouses, thanks to materials supplied by Lowe's Foods and Home Depot. Myrtle Beach officially celebrates Arbor Day at 3:30 p.m., Monday, December 7, at the YMCA.
