OVERVIEW & MISSION

The City of Myrtle Beach’s mission is to build a culture and community where employees and residents alike are respected, valued and understood for their own identity.  The Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) Office is responsible for supporting the overall implementation and advancement of the organization’s diversity, equity and inclusion strategy. 

Kelvin Waites serves as director of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Office for the City of Myrtle Beach organization.  The position was established on January 2022 as part of a renewed effort to promote an inclusive and fair work environment.  The director plays an integral part in ensuring the City of Myrtle Beach continues to evolve in ways that promote best practices in equity as we strive for long-term transformational change. 

HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION

The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Director serves as the staff liaison for the Human Rights Commission, established in 1990 by the Myrtle Beach City Council.  The board aims to eliminate discriminatory practices by fostering and encouraging the growth and development of the city in a manner that will assure to all persons equal opportunity to live free of discrimination.  To learn more, visit the Boards, Commissions & Committees webpage.
