Accommodations Tax (ATAX) Grants
OVERVIEW & APPLICATION PROCESS
The City of Myrtle Beach receives 40+ applicants each year vying for a chance to receive a portion of the city's accommodations tax funds. The total funding awarded each year averages about $750,000 to $800,000. When the initial application and review process has been completed, the city's Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee votes on what recommendations to pass along to Myrtle Beach City Council. Then, during a workshop in 2024, Councilmembers hear from applicants and select the final grant recipients, along with the amounts each recipient receives. Questions? Applicants, please note that the Accommodations Tax funding process can be somewhat lengthy. Once submitted, applications are reviewed for discrepancies, if any, and staff work with applicants to correct them. Then, the City of Myrtle Beach's Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee reviews the applications and participates in public meetings before making recommendations to City Council. Applicants, plan to attend and make an in-person pitch at the first Accommodations Tax Advisory Committee meeting, set for 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 11, 2023 (Location TBA). Questions?
