OVERVIEW

The Jake Abraham Transfer Station is operated by the Solid Waste & Recycling Division as part of the city's Public Works Department.  The facility is located at 3221 Mr. Joe White Avenue.  For more information about services, call 843-918-2160.

HOURS OF OPERATION

Beginning Monday, November 20, 2023, the residential convenience center's seasonal hours of operation will go into effect.  The hours, listed below, will continue through Spring 2024.  Customers must show proof of residency to deposit items in the self-load containers.  Please bring one of the following on the day of your visit:  current utility bill, driver's license or current parking decal.  Questions?  Call the Solid Waste and Recycling Division 843-918-2160. 

  • Tuesdays through Fridays – 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
  • Saturdays – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
ACCEPTED MATERIALS

The same materials accepted for curbside pick-up are accepted at the transfer station.  For more information, including a more detailed list of materials accepted, see the Solid Waste & Recycling Division webpage.

  • Household Garbage
  • Bulk Waste
  • Yard Waste
  • Co-mingled Recyclables
  • Clean Wood Waste
  • Scrap Metal
  • Electronic Waste
  • Automotive and Light Truck Tires (Limit of four off-the-rim tires per person, per day.)

A $5 minimum charge will be applied to all loads (applies to City of Myrtle Beach residents and businesses, too).  Prices are subject to change.  The following fees and weights apply:

  • Garbage – $61 per ton
  • Bulk Waste – $52 per ton
  • Yard Waste – $40.50 per ton
  • Clean Wood Waste – $52 per ton
  • Co-mingled Recyclables – No Charge
  • Automotive and Light Truck Tires – No Charge  (Limit of four off-the-rim tires per person, per day.)
  • Electronic Waste – No Charge
ELECTRONICS

State law requires separate recycling for electronics, TVs and computers.  This means TVs and computers CANNOT be placed in the garbage or curbside recycling containers.  If you have a computer or TV that is ready for pick-up, contact the Solid Waste Division directly at 843-918-2160.  Electronics can also be dropped off at the Jake Abraham Transfer Station, 3221 Mr. Joe White Avenue, for recycling.
