A new mural is coming to life in Myrtle Beach’s Arts & Innovation District. Well-known muralist Tommy Simpson and his crew are creating a mural called “Give a Child Some Paint” on a blank wall at 522 Broadway Street. Work started a few days ago and should be finished Tuesday, January 17. The mural has trees with pastel leaves, as if painted by a child. And children helped paint the wall! Students from Our Kids Create, an after-school program housed in the building, helped paint pastel leaves with Simpson’s instruction and supervision. The kids painted like pros, giving the project verisimilitude: children creating art that looks as if it was painted by children. Simpson is a well-known local muralist whose other works include a refreshing of the Whaling Wall at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
