Former students stepped up to save the history of the Myrtle Beach Colored School, which served African American students from the 1930s to the early 1950s, before integration.  Included in these photos are now-grown students posing at the original building, before it was recreated a block and a half away.  Also shown are some early report cards, the girls’ basketball team and a “Tom Thumb” wedding program.  Pictured here is a portrait of Mary C. Canty, one of the former students who rallied the community to preserve not only the building, but also the history and memories that went with it.  The final photo is of the groundbreaking ceremony for the "new" old school.  To learn more, visit our Historic Myrtle Beach Colored School and Education Center page.
