Myrtle Beach’s annual Juneteenth celebration was hosted by the city’s Neighborhood Services Department on Saturday, June 17.  Hundreds of people gathered along Carver Street for the Unity Parade and participated in Juneteenth festivities at Charlie’s Place, 1420 Carver Street.  The eight-hour event included fresh food, music, Gullah Geechee storytelling, vendors, dancing, community fellowship, and smiling faces.  The Juneteenth holiday commemorates June 19, 1865, the recognized day of independence for enslaved African Americans in the United States, as a way to “honor the past, celebrate the progress and build the promise of freedom for all.”
