Chapin Memorial Library’s summer reading program concluded with ReadFEST on Saturday, July 29, although the weather intervened. More than 100 young people and parents participated on the lawn at Crabtree Memorial Gym. Kids enjoyed a bounce house, cookie art and other games and crafts. All went well until the rains came, when Mother Nature added a new layer to the fun. The rain cut the event short, but dodging raindrops and getting wet only added to the atmosphere and camaraderie. The youngsters successfully celebrated their summer reading success: 135 children read for 357,185 minutes, or an average of 2,645 minutes per child. That’s 44 hours of summer reading per person! In addition, 103 adults took part in a summer reading program of their own, completing 2,162 books. That’s 21 books per adult reader during the summer! Congratulations to all.
