The untimely death of former Mayor John Rhodes in January did not keep him from achieving one more goal – namely, a computer lab for youngsters at the Boys & Girls Club of the Grand Strand.  Rhodes had recently joined the club’s board and had committed personal funds toward the computer project, but he died from COVID before the project could be completed.  Fortunately, the former mayor’s friends and family picked up the challenge and raised additional funding.  In all, the group generated $65,000 for the John T. Rhodes Computer Lab, funding 20 desktop and 20 laptop computers for the Boys & Girls Club.  Ribbon-cutting ceremonies were held August 4.  Rhodes was a strong supporter of youth programs in our community, from the classroom to the playing field.
