Granite markers recently were unveiled in memory of longtime community members Lawrence Jones and Crain Woods.  Jones was one of the earliest proponents of sports tourism and an advocate of youth sports.  As a result, City Council named Field E at the Ned Donkle Complex in his memory.  It’s now the Lawrence Jones Field, where a new generation of young people will remember his name.  Crain Woods was a favorite educator in the local schools long before he became a City Council member.  In honor of his support for stormwater improvements and other neighborhood enhancements, City Council named the pier at Futrell Park in his memory.  It’s now the Crain E. Woods Memorial Pier.  Family members were on hand in both instances for the naming ceremonies.
