Photos of the Week

Friday, September 7, 2018

Local artist Tommy Simpson signed his biggest artwork ever this week, when he put his name on the Whaling Wall mural at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.  Simpson had the gigantic task of updating and refreshing the 25-year-old Myrtle Beach landmark created by Wyland back in 1993. The Whaling Wall is one of 100 original works of art that Wyland did around the world.  Simpson was hired to update the existing mural, which had faded considerably.  He also added a few extra touches of color in the sea and sky.  During ribbon-cutting ceremonies for the new work, Simpson signed his name and this year’s date alongside Wyland’s original signature.  By the way, Sherwin-Williams donated the special outdoors paint for the project.
