Myrtle Beach’s Neighborhood Services Department is working to restore a largely unknown cemetery that’s virtually hidden, just off 21st Avenue North, behind the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.  Dating to the mid-1930s, the cemetery is home to many military veterans, including those who served in both World Wars, Korea and Vietnam.  Many of the graves date from the 1960s and 1970s, although an occasional burial still occurs at the cemetery.  The quiet site is tree-covered and peaceful.  Of the 243 graves identified by sonar in 2010, only 128 had family or individual names.  The Neighborhood Services staff and community volunteers recently raked and cleaned.  They are asking the community for assistance in attaching family names to the rest of the grave locations.
