Educational materials and displays at Crabtree Memorial Gymnasium tell the history of the former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base, from the Cold War until its closure in 1993. The mini-museum highlights the base’s involvement with the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Vietnam War and both Gulf conflicts. The people, places and planes of the Myrtle Beach Air Force Base also are remembered with more than 150 historical markers scattered throughout the Market Common district.
