OVERVIEW

Military Appreciation events are planned by the City of Myrtle Beach's Military Appreciation Committee, an ad hoc committee open to all interested individuals with a passion for our United States military.  Below is the list of 2023 events.

  • Colonel Robert Hawkins Veteran Volunteer Service Award – Nomination Deadline is Monday, April 3, 2023
  • Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ Military Card Set – Nomination Deadline is Monday, April 10, 2023

JROTC 2019 7JROTC DRILL COMPETITION & MILITARY FAMILY MEMBERS SOCIAL

Teams from Horry County high schools compete in the annual Horry County Junior ROTC Drill Meet on the first Saturday of May at the Myrtle Beach Pelicans’ stadium.  Local U.S. Army recruiters serve as judges for the drill meet.  A Military Family Members Social follows the event, offering free food and fellowship.  To view previous event photos, click here.

MILITARY APPRECIATION DAYS PARADE, PICNIC & EXHIBITS

Farrow Parkway is awash in red, white and blue on the Saturday preceding Memorial Day as the Military Appreciation Days Parade sweeps through the Market Common district.  Large crowds attend the event, which features a Grand Marshal and Honorary Grand Marshal.  The free family picnic follows in Valor Memorial Garden, with  entertainment, exhibits, displays and more!  To view photos, click here.

Veterans March 2018 2JACK PLATT VETERANS' MARCH ON MEMORIAL DAY & BATTLEFIELD CROSS CEREMONY
Veterans march on Ocean Boulevard in a solemn remembrance of Memorial Day on Monday.  It originated with the late Jack Platt, a World War II veteran.  The event is not a parade, but rather a chance for veterans to collectively observe the meaning of Memorial Day.  The public is welcome to attend the march to show their support, too.  To view photos, click here.

MEMORIAL DAY REMEMBRANCE CEREMONY

The annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center focuses on those who served our country and paid the ultimate price for freedom.  Veterans from every conflict and branch are recognized at this solemn event, which features a brass band performance, speakers and Missing Man Table ceremony.  To view photos, click here.

The annual Veterans Day Ceremony at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center focuses on the history and future of military service.  Veterans from every conflict and branch are recognized.  The event includes guest speakers, a brass band performance and more.  And, new recruits take their oaths of office to become soldiers.  To view photos, click here.
