Strategy Statement

  • The City of Myrtle Beach Police Department strives to protect our citizens, visitors and workers.  We will use intelligence gathering, information sharing and our experience to effectively and efficiently protect this City and those in it.  We will deploy an enhanced number of human and electronic resources to accomplish this goal while maintaining a fulfilling vacationing experience.

Staffing and Deployment for Weekend Beginning May 29, 2020

  • Over 80 officers will be deployed throughout the weekend.

  • These officers will be deployed in capacities to include Patrol, Traffic, Waterfront, Inmate Transport, Power Shift and Response Teams.

  • Officers will focus on tiered responses and hot-spots.

    Traffic Congestion Management Plan

  • Utilizing this program as necessary in conjunction with the Street Sweepers from Public Works and sidewalk cleaning crews.

  • Pursuant to the City Code 19-200 (Traffic Congestion Management Plan) the Police and Public Works Departments will implement our traffic congestion counter measures when necessary.

    • The counter measures will be implemented starting at 16th Avenue North, southbound and at 3rd Avenue South, northbound. Messaging will be completed through our traffic message boards as well as our social media outlets.

    • This will be in conjunction with our beautification/sanitation efforts to include our street sweepers and sidewalk cleaning crews.

       

      Gang Interdiction Efforts (On-going)

       

  • Federal, State, and Local Law Enforcement Partners to include MBPD Crime Analyst, MBPD Intelligence Unit and MBPD Real Time Crime Analysts will continue to work together to generate, and share intelligence.

  • These collaborative efforts will provide real time information to officers working on the street to address any unlawful activity.

    Barricades (May 25, 2020 – July 13, 2020)

  • Keep all pedestrian barricades from 15th Avenue North to 3rd Avenue South from May 25, 2020 to July 13, 2020 with a weekly evaluation for removal.

    • Ensure pedestrian safety eliminating interaction in congested areas between vehicular traffic and pedestrians.

  • Street Sweepers will begin Friday and Saturday at midnight from 21st Avenue North to 6th Avenue South.

  • Sidewalk blowing will commence Friday and Saturday at midnight from 21st Avenue North to 6th Avenue South.

    Messaging on Social Media and Message Boards

  • Traffic Congestion Management Plan on city message boards and social media posts.

  • Rental conveyance regulations, ordinances and laws will be posted on social media posts and videos completed by our Traffic Unit regarding proper operation and enforcement.
