First in Service Friday: Karen Johnson
FIRST IN SERVICE FRIDAY 
Please help the City of Myrtle Beach congratulate Karen Johnson of Myrtle Beach Fire Administration for being this week's First in Service Friday Employee of the Week awardee! Karen was recently promoted to Fire Administration Supervisor and has been with MBFD for 11 years. She obtained her Masters Degree in Organizational Leadership and Human Resources and earned her Society of Human Resource Management Certification (SHRM) all while she's been working for Fire Administration! We'd say she's on fire

“I would like to nominate Karen Johnson from Fire Administration for First in Service Friday! Karen is the type of employee that goes above and beyond every day. Karen comes in early and stays late often to make sure she has everything taken care of. She is the Admin Manager and handles all of the personnel and HR tasks/issues. She has many other job functions, but those are the main aspects of her job. With around 160 employees in MBFD, her tasks keep her busy on a day to day basis. We are currently hiring for Certified Firefighter/Paramedics and also we just got a grant to hire Probationary Firefighters. She is heavily involved in the hiring process and makes sure the potential new hires send all of the qualifications and paperwork needed to get them hired. This is a process to where they have to take a written test and also they take a physical agility test as well as an interview. She goes through the whole process with them and makes sure they have all the information they need to succeed. She is always going the extra mile and reaching out to a potential employee just to make sure that they understand the process. I feel like Karen is a valuable employee to the City and is very deserving of this nomination!"
