Myrtle Beach skateboarding non-profit presents check to City Council for park upgrade

JANUARY 25, 2023

Exciting news for Myrtle Beach's Matt Hughes Skate Park... a $20,000 check from the Friends of the Skateparks Foundation was presented to City Council during yesterday's meeting to help meet a $30,000 goal for the construction of the bowl you see below.
The City of Myrtle Beach plans to pay for $50,000 of the $80,000 project for our skateboarding and recreation communities. The bowl is estimated to be about five feet deep, 50 feet long and 30 feet wide with a design meant to keep users "flowing" as they skate. The Friends of the Skateparks Foundation and Myrtle Beach's Recreation Division say that the half pipe that's currently there is too dangerous, and needs to be replaced. The Friends of the Skatepark Foundation is holding three upcoming fundraisers to meet their goal of $30,000 for construction. Those fundraisers are:
- Sunday, March 12: 9th Annual Oyster Roast & Bloody Mary Contest at Wicked Tuna in Murrells Inlet.
- Saturday, April 1: Fundraiser at New South Brewing. Details to come.
- Thursday-Sunday, April 20-23: Second Annual Myrtle Beach AM. Details: https://bit.ly/3j7qsKQ
