First in Service Friday: Drayton Arnold

FEBRUARY 24, 2023

FIRST IN SERVICE FRIDAY.  Please help the City of Myrtle Beach congratulate Drayton Arnold for being this week's First in Service Friday Employee of the Week! Drayton is part of the City Manager's Office as the Assistant to the City Manager. He first joined the City of Myrtle Beach team in January 2022 as the city's Grants Manager. Drayton says he loves to write grants because he "sees the direct impacts they have on the residents within our community." Drayton still applies for and manages grants, and also serves as a staff liaison for the Technology Advisory Group (TAG) and Workforce Housing Advisory Board. His nomination reads:

"It is always a pleasure to welcome new team members to our City Team and there is one newcomer who has quickly immersed himself in the “First in Service” culture. He really isn’t new to Myrtle Beach. He is Drayton Arnold, a true native and graduate of Myrtle Beach High School. This young, energetic man began working with grants research for the Police and Fire Departments. When the Grants Manager position became available, Drayton applied and was offered the position. Knowing retirement was fast approaching for his predecessor, “Dray” delved into the work and allowed himself to be mentored and trained well. His mentor shared she felt she was leaving the position in good hands and we all agree!

With only having been in the Grants Manager position a short while, Drayton saw a more challenging opportunity when the Assistant to the City Manager position became open. Because he has a strong desire to give back to his community, he applied and again was offered the position. Drayton works closely with all departments and is making it known that he loves his community and is excited about his future, what lies ahead for him and the City of Myrtle Beach. It is an honor to recommend Drayton Arnold for the First in Service Award."

Way to go, Drayton! Thank you for your hard work and dedication to the City of Myrtle Beach. You are appreciated!
