Myrtle Beach looks at proposed new Master Plan for central business district
After six months of study, Benchmark Consultants presented a new Master Plan for Downtown Myrtle Beach at Tuesday’s City Council meeting. The full report is available online at https://www.myrtlebeachboardwalk.com/masterplan.
The firm held numerous public meetings in the area and listened to business people and other stakeholders to get a sense for what would best jumpstart redevelopment. The plan focuses on four districts: Oceanfront, Kings Highway, Historic Main Street and an Arts District. Recommendations include a new library and children’s museum, a new City Hall, a relocated art museum, a performing arts center, mixed use involving retail and residential properties, offices, apartments, an entryway feature and a central plaza or park feature.
