April 14-20 is Public Safety Telecommunicators' Week

Myrtle Beach City Council proclaims week of April 14-20 as Public Safety Telecommunicators' Week, in recognition of all that our behind-the-scenes communications staff does for the Myrtle Beach Police Department. Here's the proclamation text...

WHEREAS, Emergencies can occur at anytime, requiring police, fire or EMS service, and the prompt response of police officers, firefighters and paramedics... is critical to the protection of life and preservation of property; and

WHEREAS, Each day, the Myrtle Beach Police Department’s Communications Center receives more than 500 calls for service, and our telecommunicators are the first and most critical contact citizens have when seeking help; and

WHEREAS, The welfare of the public depends upon these patient heroes and the quality and accuracy of information they obtain from citizens and visitors who call for assistance; and

WHEREAS, Telecommunicators also are the vital link for Myrtle Beach police officers and firefighters, monitoring activities by radio, providing timely updates and insuring their safety; and

WHEREAS, Our public safety telecommunicators are unseen first responders who contribute substantially to the apprehension of criminals, suppression of fires and treatment of patients, all while exhibiting compassion, understanding and professionalism during stressful situations;

NOW, THEREFORE, be it proclaimed that the Myrtle Beach City Council hereby declares April 14-20, 2019, as Public Safety Telecommunicators’ Week, in honor and appreciation of the men and women whose calm and professional response keeps our residents, visitors and staff members safe every day.
