New pilot program called “Check My Beach” debuts…
Working together, the City of Myrtle Beach, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) have launched a new “Check My Beach” brochure and web page. Both are designed to provide quick access to water quality information and general beach safety tips.
“The goal is to provide informat...ion that will inform and reassure the public about our great water quality and answer questions about other beach-related subjects,” said Jimmy Gray, Director of Government Affairs for the Chamber of Commerce.
The new brochure provides information about water quality, potential rip currents and other beach tips. It includes www.checkmybeach.com, a new web address that directs visitors and residents to DHEC’s water quality reporting page.
The brochure is available now at several local hotels as part of the late summer pilot program. They include the Island Vista, Dayton House, Hampton Inn and Double Tree. Brochures also are available at Myrtle Beach International Airport and the Chamber of Commerce.
“Check My Beach” signs have been installed at beach access points from 16th Avenue North to Second Avenue North to remind beach-goers that they can quickly learn more online about a particular location along the Grand Strand.
The Coastal Waccamaw Stormwater Education Consortium assisted with these educational materials.
