Hurricane Dorian solid waste schedule update

With Hurricane Dorian threatening the Grand Strand midweek, the City of Myrtle Beach will adjust this week’s solid waste collection schedule slightly in an effort to serve all customers before the storm’s effects are felt.  Here is the revised schedule:

  • Monday, September 2 – Regular service of Zone 1 (Monday Zone) for all products:  garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky junk
  • Tuesday, September 3 – Service of Zones 2 and 3 (both Tuesday and Wednesday Zones) for garbage only; no pickup of recycling, yard waste or bulky junk
  • Wednesday, September 4 – Service of Zone 4 (Thursday Zone) for garbage only; no pickup of recycling, yard waste or bulky junk.

Again, the plan is for regular service on Monday, then combined pickup on Tuesday of both the Tuesday and Wednesday routes, followed by pickup of the Thursday route on Wednesday.  The Tuesday and Wednesday service would only be for garbage only (pelicans only), not for recycling, yard waste or bulky junk, so please don’t set those out on Tuesday or Wednesday.

Again, we are trying to collect everyone’s household garbage before the storm’s effects arrive – weather permitting.  If the storm arrives earlier than expected, we will need to pull vehicles and personnel from the roads to avoid dangerous wind conditions.

Once your pelican has been emptied, remember to move it back to a secure place so that it will not blow around in the tropical storm/hurricane force winds that we are expecting late Wednesday and much of Thursday.  Thanks in advance for your cooperation and assistance.
