Update on City of Myrtle Beach services and facilities

As a reminder, the City of Myrtle Beach is starting today (Wednesday, September 4) as usual, with a few exceptions. City offices and facilities are open this morning, although Chapin Memorial Library is closed because it’s in Zone A, where the evacuation order applies. Also, our parks and playgrounds are closed today in advance of Hurricane Dorian’s approach. That includes Savannah’s Playground and both the North and South Barc Park. All are closed beginning Wednesday. Myrtle's Market is closed Wednesday and Friday. The market will re-open Saturday, September 7.

City staff will meet later today to discuss plans for Thursday and Friday; look for an update this afternoon on the city’s operations for the rest of the week. At this time, the Waves of Praise Gospel Festival is still on track for Friday evening at the Convention Center and all day Saturday at the Burroughs & Chapin Pavilion Park. Bring a beach chair or blanket and come enjoy some great local, regional and national gospel artists Saturday, once the storm is gone. Admission is free!

Please be safe as Dorian approaches. Be sure to bring in your pelicans and other outdoor equipment or otherwise secure those items so they won’t blow around in the winds. We are expecting tropical storm force winds, with perhaps some hurricane-force gusts. Six-plus inches of rain also are forecast as Dorian moves past.
