City of Myrtle Beach soon will have brightly colored water and sewer valve box lids

As shown in the attached photos, you can expect color-coded lids to appear on streets in new neighborhoods. The Infrastructure Division plans to convert its water and sewer valve box lids to these powder-coated examples, where the color is permanent. In years past, employees painted the lids manually, but over time, the color faded and the paint disappeared, making it harder for crews to identify the valves.

The powder-coated lids are color-coded: blue is for water, green for sewer, and red signifies a fire line or fire hydrant valves. Bingham and Taylor Manufacturing created the design and casting mold free of charge. You’ll see the new lids installed in a few weeks.
