National Night Out set for October 1 in Myrtle Beach

Various Myrtle Beach Neighborhoods come together to celebrate Myrtle Beach’s National Night Out from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1. The Myrtle Beach Convention Center, 2101 North Oak Street, hosts this year’s event. All city neighborhood associations are invited to compete in a Chili Coo...k-Off Contest! The event gives attendees an opportunity to get to know their city-wide neighbors and city staff, too. Questions? To register your neighborhood for the National Night Out Cook-Off, call the Neighborhood Services Department at 843-918-1061. Guidelines for the cook-off are listed below:

• The City of Myrtle Beach will issue a $200 check to each neighborhood that registers to participate in the cook-off. Please submit to whom the check should be made payable to Stephani James at 843-918-1806 or sjames@cityofmyrtlebeach.com.
• Ground beef, drinks, table with two electric burner cook top, two National Night Out Table Covers, Two aprons, napkins, tasting spoons and cups will be provided.
• Bring your own chefs and sous-chefs.
• No alcoholic beverages are allowed!
• The Myrtle Beach Fire Department will provide hot dogs for attendees.
• Cook-Off participants must bring pots, pans and other cooking utensils.
• Participants are allowed to arrive at the Convention Center as early as 1:00 p.m., on October 1 to set up for the cook-off.
• Cook-off chefs are allowed to prep ingredients prior to the cook-off. The final product must be completed at the Convention Center.
• Sides such as corn bread, rice, mashed potatoes, biscuits or desserts can be used to compliment chili dishes. You may prepare the sides prior to the event.
• First, Second and Third place winners will be awarded for the best chili.
