Strong economic summer 2019 for Myrtle Beach

Myrtle Beach's economy had a very strong summer. During Tuesday's City Council meeting, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce reported that Tourism Development Fee (TDF) revenues were up 17 percent so far this year, compared with last year. As shown on the attached graph, the receipts are through August 2019. The TDF is the extra one penny sales tax charged on retail purchases in the City of Myrtle Beach. Since it's not charged just on tourism-related expenditures (as the Accommodations and Hospitality Taxes are), it's a better measure of the city's overall economic increase.
