Rental assistance money still available through COVID-19 program

According to the Grand Strand CEO website, SC Thrive’s COVID-19 Rental Assistance Program still has funding available and is accepting applications. This program provides emergency rental assistance to South Carolina residents who are facing financial hardships because of the coronavirus health emergency. It’s for renters (not ho...meowners) who are affected by shutdowns, closures, layoffs, reduced work hours or unpaid leave due to the outbreak.

Eligible households may receive assistance of $1,500 for rent in a one-time payment made directly to the property owners or management companies. Supporting documentation is required, in addition to the application. You can learn more at https://scthrive.org/covid-19-rental-assistance-program/. Here are some of the guidelines and requirements:

• Applicants must be South Carolina residents
• Applicants’ household income must be at or below 80 percent of the Area Media Income (AMI) for the county in which they live.
• Applicants’ employment/income must have been affected by COVID-19, beginning March 10 or later.
• Applicants must be past due on rent, and the rental assistance payment must bring the rental balance current.
• Applicants cannot currently receive any subsidized rental assistance.
