Horry-Georgetown Technical College hosts the 14th annual Addiction and Recovery Series on Thursdays, through February 18. Events feature a variety of well-known speakers, including Keith Somers, Carnie Wilson, Gary Stromberg and Paul Williams. 7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 4 – Demonstrations of Recovery
Grand Strand Health, FAVOR-Grand Strand, Shoreline Behavioral Health and Lighthouse Behavioral Health collectively present creative and thought-provoking demonstrations of recovery.
 
8:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, February 4 – Speaker Keith Somers
Keith A. Somers is an actor, voice-over artist and motivational speaker, and has fulfilled roles in national commercials and movies. Following a multi-car collision, Keith was charged and convicted of Second Degree Murder and given a life sentence in state prison. After serving nearly two decades, Somers shares his experience to help others find hope.
 
7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 11 – Recovery Discussion Panel
A panel of Horry Georgetown Technical College students, faculty and staff in recovery from various addictions discuss their experiences and share daily efforts to maintain recovery.
 
8:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, February 11 – Speaker Carnie Wilson
Carnie Wilson, daughter of legendary Beach Boy founder Brian Wilson, has a varied career as a singer, songwriter, TV host, actress, author and more. Wilson achieved first album success selling 10 million albums with 3 #1 hit singles. She is a regular co-host for CBS’s The Talk show.
 
7:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, February 18 – Speaker Gary Stromberg
As a cofounder of Gibson and Stromberg, a large and influential music public relations firm, Stromberg has been clean and sober for more than 37 years. His company represented clients that include: The Rolling Stones; Pink Floyd; Muhammad Ali; Barbra Streisand; Boyz II Men; Neil Diamond; Ray Charles; The Doors; Earth, Wind & Fire; and, Elton John.
 
8:00 to 9:00 p.m., Thursday, February 18 – Speaker Paul Williams
Paul Williams is a singer, songwriter, actor, author and recovery advocate. As a lyricist and composer, Williams has won an Oscar, three Grammy awards, two Golden Globes and earned induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Williams’ songs include: We’ve Only Just Begun, Rainy Days and Mondays, You and Me Against the World, An Old Fashioned Love Song, Let Me Be the One and The Rainbow Connection.
