City of Myrtle Beach recognizes this week's First in Service Friday awardee

JANUARY 6, 2023

FIRST IN SERVICE FRIDAY Please help the City of Myrtle Beach congratulate Earl Sickels of the Public Works Department for being this week's First in Service Friday Employee of the Week! Earl is an 18 year veteran of the City of Myrtle Beach, and serves as the city's Construction Inspector. Earl works as a liaison between the City of Myrtle Beach and builders/project managers to make sure all permits are secured and the each new building is built to our standards. You can find the most recent email from a satisfied project manager below, giving you a better idea of Earl's day-to-day tasks. Congratulations, Earl! His nomination reads:

"Earl started with the City just a few months prior to me in October of 2005 as a Construction Inspector and he maintains that position within our Public Works Department. Prior to joining our Myrtle Beach family, Earl worked as an Engineering Technician II with the SC Department of Transportation. Since we started and worked within the same division and same building, I’ve known Earl for almost 17 years now!

Earl uses his technical talents to ensure that contractors install the civil site work components correctly on a job site that is constructed in accordance with the engineered plans. He also coordinates with contractors needing temporary road obstruction or encroachment permits. He uses his keen communication skills to inspect work performed by a variety of contractors responsible for land clearing and lot grading, in addition to underground utility (water, sewer, stormwater infrastructure), curb/gutter, sidewalk, street trees, and street light installation activities. In some cases, these developer contributed assets are dedicated to the City for ownership and maintenance.

No matter if the project involves a private development or public infrastructure, Earl takes the initiative and is dedicated to make sure the owner is receiving a high quality product. Earl extends his civic pride and professionalism into his daily interactions with our residents/business owners and the suite of external customers (developers, engineers, surveyors, and contractors) alike. It is not uncommon for Earl to receive accolades from project managers and I’ve attached the most recent one from the Publix Coventry Marketplace project."

Thank you for your service, Earl. We appreciate you!
