First in Service Friday: Kurt Klepper

FEBRUARY 17, 2023

FIRST IN SERVICE FRIDAY ✨ Please help the City of Myrtle Beach congratulate Kurt Klepper of the Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department for being this week's First in Service Friday Employee of the Week! You may recognize Kurt, as he's no stranger to being featured on our Facebook page in recent months. Kurt is the cemetery manager for the City of Myrtle Beach, and helped spearhead recent efforts to improve and revitalize Oak Street and Ocean Woods Cemeteries. He's been employed with the City for eight years, working as the City's playground safety inspector prior to becoming cemetery manager more than two years ago. Kurt is originally from Cleveland, but has called Myrtle Beach home for 30 years! Kurt's nomination reads:

"When I think of a candidate who exemplifies the 'First in Service' spirit, a most humble, kind and caring gentleman comes to mind... Mr. Kurt Klepper. Kurt is responsible for ensuring the two city owned cemeteries are properly maintained. I began working with him in 2021, as we discussed the potential work needed at the Oak Street Cemetery. Kurt and his team assessed the cemetery and developed plans to begin restoration efforts.
To look at before and after photos is simply amazing! Family members of those laid to rest in the Oak Street Cemetery have called and commented on how grateful they are for the beautification project. In the words of Kurt himself, “They (the deceased) deserve this!” I agree and I’m happy to have witnessed the transformation.
A new sign was ordered and placed at the entrance gate, but after installment, Kurt was not satisfied and requested the company remove it and replace with a new one that met his expected standards. It is absolutely beautiful, and as one who has loved ones resting there, I am forever grateful to Kurt Klepper and his passion as a servant!"

If you see Kurt around Oak Street or Ocean Woods Cemeteries, be sure to say hello! He's photographed in front of the Ocean Wood Cemetery office building that was recently restored. Thank you for your #FirstinService attitude and you are appreciated!
