First in Service Friday: Richard Newell

JUNE 2, 2023

FIRST IN SERVICE FRIDAY.  Please help the City of Myrtle Beach congratulate Richard Newell of the Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism Department for being this week's First in Service Friday Employee of the Week! Originally from northern Virginia, Richard came to Myrtle Beach 12 years ago and has worked for the city for 11 years. He's a maintenance technician for the PRST department. His main duties include taking care of and working on our playgrounds and parks, including the new splash pad at Futrell Park! You will often find Richard there because of his involvement in the project, although he's known as a jack of all trades for Myrtle Beach. His sons are both Myrtle Beach High School graduates, and one just graduated weeks ago from Clemson. His nominations read:

"I’d like to nominate Richard Newell for the First in Service Friday award for his outstanding character and integrity. Richard goes above and beyond taking care of both our city and community. He takes pride in his work and is always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. His commitment to his job and co-workers is admirable, and his positive attitude is always there to brighten your day. Along with his regular duties, he will stop and help anyone at any time. He works hard from the time he comes to work until the time he leaves. He is trustworthy, kind and spreads the First in Service spirit around everywhere he goes. I know I’m not alone in saying it’s a great day when I get to work with Richard, and I am very thankful for all he does!"

"I would like to nominate Richard Newell from the South Shop for First in Service Friday. Richard does an outstanding job. He takes initiative when he sees opportunity to accomplish a job. I cannot say enough about his knowledge and skill in all of the trades he works in. Richard does not shy away from any job, big or small. He is an excellent co-worker."

Wow, thanks for being an excellent co-worker and #FirstinService. You are appreciated!
