First in Service Friday: Danielle Loizzi

JUNE 23, 2023

FIRST IN SERVICE FRIDAY ✨ Please help the City of Myrtle Beach congratulate Danielle Loizzi for being this week's First in Service Friday Employee of the Week! Patrolman First Class Loizzi is part of the police department's Beach Patrol Division. She moved here from New Jersey to be a police officer almost six years ago and hasn't looked back! PFC Loizzi says she "loves the beach, gets to meet a ton of people and has a lot of fun." She was nightshift patrol until she moved to the Beach Patrol Division's dayshift.
PFC Loizzi was also a candidate for 2022 Police Officer of the Year! In her nomination, her co-workers note her willingness to take on difficult projects and learn new skillsets, her cheerful attitude and all star response. Danielle responded to 3,899 calls for service and provided back up for an extra 624 calls for service in 2022. She's also saved people in the ocean! Additionally, she has helped train new officers, coordinated with other city departments to remove ocean debris, address loitering with new signage and resolve graffiti issues. She's very active in the Myrtle Beach community, most recently being a part of The World's Largest Swimming Lesson, Cops and Bobbers, Touch-a-Truck and the Easter Egg Plunge.

Her nomination is a little different than most of our awardees. We are removing names and referring to the people in the letter as "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" to protect their identities. PFC Loizzi's nomination reads:

"Please take note of PFC Loizzi's Life Saving Recognition from the wife of Mr. Smith.

On January *, 2023, PFC Loizzi was called to the scene of a person in distress on the beach near Ninth Avenue South. Danielle observed a fully clothed male in the freezing, rough, ocean surf experiencing a mental health episode. Danielle was successfully able to call Mr. Smith out of the water, without incident. Mr. Smith refused EMS service, but was taken back to the police station.

Afterwards, I witnessed a thankful and tearful Mr. and Mrs. Smith meet with PFC Loizzi at the service counter to thank her for talking him out of the surf that day, and offering him assistance.

Thank you for your compassion, Danielle, and completing the task at hand. I see you and your community sees you."

Thank you for being an all star, PFC Loizzi! You are appreciated. #FirstinService
