New stormwater pond pushes future Arts and Innovation District vision forward

OCTOBER 4, 2023

Work is underway on a new stormwater storage pond and system to serve the new Arts & Innovation District in downtown Myrtle Beach. The contractor, C.L. Benton, began digging the pond Monday. It’s at the intersection of Balsam Street and US 501. This is included in the $34 million infrastructure package for the A&I District. The scope of work includes new water and sewer lines, stormwater systems, underground utilities, new sidewalks and streetscapes and the realignment of Oak and Broadway Streets so that Oak Street will be the through street.
