The City of Myrtle Beach accepted ownership of the Butterfly Memorial

The City of Myrtle Beach accepted ownership of the Butterfly Memorial at the Grand Park Athletic Complex during last week's City Council meeting. The memorial was created in memory of the children and millions of others who died during the Holocaust. The gift to the city included a bench near the educational and historical monument. Children in the concentration camps saw the butterfly as a symbol of freedom. The Permanent Butterfly Memorial Foundation raised $32,000 to create the stone marker. Thanks to Joy Glunt, Hugo Schiller and others for their work in creating the memorial in 2014.
