Did you find a hang tag on your pelican?

Myrtle Beach’s Solid Waste Division is giving residential customers a warning that they are violating city code by leaving their garbage container at the curb once it has been serviced. Violations are misdemeanors, subject to an ordinance summons and an appearance before the Quality of Life Court, once it’s activated. Here are the rules....

Your pelican must be placed at curbside for service by 6:00 a.m. on your collection day, and then removed from curbside by 11:00 p.m. on that same day. If you leave your pelican out for several days (or all week), you’re likely to get one of these notices from the Solid Waste Division. See the examples of violations in the attached photos.

• Section 17-35
On the day of collection… It shall be the responsibility of the owner or occupant to place refuse containers at the curbside or at the edge of the vehicular travel way….

• Section 17-37
Mobile refuse containers returned to curbside after collection shall be removed by 11:00 p.m. on the day of collection. The property owner or occupant shall be responsible for such removal. Failure to remove the receptacle shall constitute a violation of this article.

Also, remember that yard waste must be placed in paper bags for pickup. The Horry County Solid Waste Authority no longer accepts yard waste in plastic bags. You may find a warning notice about that violation, too.
